2021.09.20 03:18 _samm_coxx_ Gaming Laptops for College

So I’ll be going to college next year and I am looking for a gaming laptop to take with me. I have narrowed down my choices to 4 laptops and I don’t know where to go from here. 1. Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 w/ rtx 3080, 32gb ram, QHD 165hz - This is probably my favorite out of the four but I have some concerns. I can’t really tell from videos if it will be too big for college or not. I don’t want to roll into a lecture with a giant laptop. I don’t care if it is bigger than a MacBook, but I don’t want to have a cumbersome beast. I also am concerned that the keyboard may be too loud for a college class or studying in the library. Other than that I love this laptop. 2. Lenovo Legion 7 Gen 6 w/ rtx 3080, 16gb ram, QHD 165hz - This laptop is a very close contender to the Scar. I like that the keyboard is quieter and it performs better in games. It also is a little thinner and looks less gamery. But I am concerned that the fans may be too loud for a class since there is no manual mode to turn the fans off. I also do not like that the Corsair software drains the battery, and turning that off and on all the time seems like a bit of a hassle. 3. Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 w/ rtx 3070, 16gb ram, QHD 165hz - I also really like this laptop. It isn’t quite as powerful, but it should still be more than enough for what I need. I like how it is a small and discrete laptop, but that is also what I don’t like about it. I’m a sucker for RGB, and I think chilling out in my dorm room with the strix or legion would be a lot cooler. 4. Razer Blade 14 w/ rtx 3070, 16gb ram, QHD 165hz - This laptop is running against the zephyrus g15. It has the same components and is smaller. That however makes me concerned that the longevity and thermals of this laptop may be worse. I like the looks and size of this over the g15, but I feel like the g15 may perform better. I’m not sure how the g15 is size wise but if it isn’t a very big laptop and I don’t need to go any smaller for college, then I do not need the blade. Size is the main reason it is here.
What I’m looking for is just some guidance on what to choose. Price is not a factor. I don’t want a monster sized laptop, but I don’t mind getting something a little larger than average. I just can’t visualize from pictures the size of these laptops. They also all have their pros and cons and I would like to hear them from you guys. Thanks!

2021.09.20 03:18 mrsmiawallace__ Thinking of applying

Hi all, I’m considering applying to Grubhub to make some extra money in the southern New Jersey area. I don’t have available childcare so I thought Grubhub would be a good way to make extra money and take my child with me! I figure I’ll be able to keep her in the car seat while I drop off deliveries and bring her in with me when I pick up. Just wanted some opinions. Thank you!

2021.09.20 03:18 L-K-L_Mind Private Logan McCoil

Back in the year of 1983, when I told my grandfather that I had planned on visiting place for my research into places with history soaked with horror and blood, he went quiet. His calm face changed to one with deeply unsettled dread. An eerie silence filled the living room and his hands gripped the arms of his chair tightly.
Then his sapphire eyes locked onto mine and he asked me in his low gravely voice, "Why?"
I answered him, a bit nervous that I brought up some awful memories into his mind, "I need to show that our actions, especially ones with war, can stain the land, have a long-lasting effect on it even after we've all passed."
"Our actions indeed do," he replied, his eyes now giving off a bit of a dreamlike feel to them, "especially war, that awful thing from Hell itself. It makes men do horrible things to each other. And it shows them terrors they never could have imagined before. But it also brings out dark primal mad things out of men too, that they've kept suppressed for the better sake of their loved ones' and their own comfort. You know I served in the Great War, right?"
I nodded and he continued. "I fought in the bloody nightmare that was the Battle of Passchendaele. It was on a bleak cold autumn day on November 2nd, on an offensive push toward German trenches. That is when I saw what the horrors of war could bring out of a man, what could make them possess him. And I saw it in my friend, Private McCoil, Logan McCoil. You see, we knew each other before the war, ever since high school in junior year.
"Logan was a kind, humorous and philosophically intelligent young man, more than I, to be quite honest. We always shared darts, made jokes and had deep conversations about life. Yet, after fighting Somme, his soul seemed to be wearing down from what we both went through. For me, my bright optimism was darkened into a fearful pessimism. I no longer expected to be able to make it home back alive. My faith in God was ripped to shreds like my comrades from those horrifying shells and I believed Him to be some demented being that planned all of the futile slaughter and horror of the war. I never made any jokes. I just continued to share some darts with Logan.
"We would just sit or stand next to each other in silence and stare out into the beyond. Logan though, besides his humor being ripped to oblivion, would seem to draw in his journal and write ghastly strange things. I was only able to glance at some of his drawings and writings a few times, long enough to remember them. The drawings seem to be of some terrible version of a deer skull with fearsome eyes that flowed in its abysmal sockets and lengthy raggedy hair like from some madly feral man. This thing's head always seemed to be in the center of this bleeding black circle of bone where the blood appeared to be frozen into spikes of ice. I'll never forget how my body would shiver whenever I gazed at that thing, or even think of it.
"Anyways, on the 2nd of November, in the frigid rainy morning, we prepared another offensive attack. It was deathly silent and ungodly still. All I could hear was the rain, distant thunder and Logan's heavy breathing as he stood besides me, staring beyond the wall before us as we readied our rifles and bayonets. The water from the constant rain made a stream of freezing muddy water of filth that rose up to our ankles. Our artillery then began to fire rapidly forward. And then the terrible screech of the whistles were blown. We climbed over the trench and sprinted forward in the deep treacherous mud.
"All of us yelled in anxiety-stricken rage as were ran towards the German trenches through the bleak barren gray hellscape of what was once Passchendaele. Bullets from the German lines and their own mortars and artillery began raining down on us like hellfire. Men all around me were torn left and right. Hands, arms, legs and even torsos flew all around. Screams of agony and horror beyond imagination joined the sinister symphony of fire as we continued to push forward. I will never forget the nightmarish shrieks though of those shells. For some reason, on that day, those shells sounded even more terrifying than ever before.
"Logan and I were running together, constantly hopping in and out of holes made from previous bombardment. However we were abruptly stopped in place by a wall of screeching insidious explosions that seem to craw towards us like some ravenous beast. We ended up having to stay in one vast crater that had a deep pond at the center. Its walls had mummified and decaying corpses of both German and Canadian soldiers sticking halfway and partially out of the mud. Rib cages were exposed. Eyes blown out. All of them though had the same horrific expression of pure agonized terror.
"We couldn't leave the hole of the dead, because the shelling did not let up. Even when it should have ceased when the damn sun was setting, it did not cease! It didn't even for fuck's sake let up even a bit! That night, that abysmal night, the fog of dusk never fully overtook us. The shellfire would light up the entire hellscape of the battlefield like lightning from even the Devil's worst nightmare. I can't remember when I lowered my eyes from the black and blood-orange sky, for that night time appeared to cease to even exist. But when I did lower my eyes to look upon my friend who I last saw was hugging the ground as I was, I could see that his sanity finally shattered.
"He was crawling like some vicious primal beast towards a wounded German soldier. The Hun was holding his bayonet in his hand, pointing towards Logan as his other hand gripped his bleeding leg. Like some wild beast, Logan then crawled with impossible speed and pounced onto the man, nearly dodging the blade that was aimed at his heart. Private McCoil then plunged his combat knife deep into the man's chest and furiously stabbed him over and over again, countless times. The Hun was about to dive his bayonet into my friend's waist, until I fired my rifle in time to shoot his weapon out of his hand. But after what Logan began doing to the poor man, I became conflicted with a slice of regret for disarming him. This is because Logan began slashing open and ripping apart the soldier of the Kaiser, and he began ripping pieces of his flesh with his bare teeth like some feral hound from Hell.
"I should've stopped him, but I was paralyzed with a new horror from what I was witnessing. My blood, already cold, began to freeze when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something terrifying. In the ominous dense fog of smoke from the hellish shellfire, I saw a towering unholy monster walk across the battlefield. It was about 50 feet tall, thin, humanoid, covered in deathly white hair. For some reason it reminded me of a walking mummified man covered in hair. And it it massive antlers similar to some demonic version of a deer. All I could see vividly from its face though were its bright crimson eyes that glowed with hungry malevolence and its rows of white as snow teeth. It almost perfectly resembled the horrible thing Logan drew in his journal. When it turned its head to me, I felt a nameless terror that I never knew existed before.
"A frightening hunger seem to spark within my soul like some small black flame. And that's when I blacked out."
My grandfather closed his eyes and took deep breaths. With his eyes still closed, he then told me, "I can still the maddening nightmares I had after I blacked out. I saw things that shouldn't exist. They were so vivid I almost believe them to be visions of something else, something out there. Scenes of a world where black stars hang in an alien sky. A world ruled by a petrifying being in yellow. Scenes of some great towering abomination to reality in dark ominous woods of the Earth." He then opened his eyes and he seemed to calm down a bit more.
Grandfather then continued, "I remember waking up in the early morning of the following day. The rain was gone and the shelling had stopped. Logan was standing up out in the open, above the crater. His head was facing upwards towards the sky, exactly where that awful monster's head would've been if it was still staring at me. I slowly got up to my feet and walked over to him. As I did, I looked over to where I saw him the night before, feasting on the German's body he violently mutilated. The corpse of the Hun was now buried in mud with only his horrified expressed face left exposed along with his hands contorted from rigor mortis.
"Once my eyes focused back onto Logan, I saw that his helmet was no longer on his head. He was bleeding a bit from his bicep, a piece of shrapnel seeming to stick out of it. His mind seemed lost in some other world, even with his eyes wide open, locked onto the dreary gray sky. I helped him back to our lines and got him to an aid station. With the help of some time away from the lines and his wound taken care of, he joined back onto the lines.
"After the war, we came back home together. He headed to his family's house in the backwoods of Sicamous. We never spoke to each other again after that."
My grandfather then looked right back into my eyes and told me with utmost sincerity, "War is a nightmare brought to life into this world. And it can bring others into this world along with it. It changes the land. It changes young innocent men. And it can turn them into walking vessels of terror, roaming amongst those who are oblivious to the horrors that surround us all. Remember this, Lucas. Remember what I've told you."
